Standard TEFL: Who is it for?

The Standard TEFL course is designed for people who want practical, hands-on teacher training without a formal academic qualification. If you want to get into a classroom quickly, learn through doing, and earn a recognised TEFL certificate accepted by schools in Thailand and internationally, this is the most direct route.

There are no academic assignments beyond the course itself. The focus is entirely on your classroom skills: lesson planning, delivery, classroom management, and real teaching practice with Thai students.

Best for: People who prefer a practical approach, those who are not interested in formal academic study, and anyone who wants to start teaching in Thailand as efficiently as possible.

TQUK Level 5: Who is it for?

The TQUK Level 5 course delivers the same 120-hour in-person training as the Standard TEFL, with the addition of academic assignments that lead to a formally regulated UK qualification. Level 5 sits within the Ofqual Regulated Qualifications Framework, making it one of the most recognised TEFL qualifications globally.

The Level 5 certificate carries more weight with international schools, private bilingual schools, and any employer who requires a formally accredited qualification. It is also advantageous if you plan to progress into teacher training or further study in education.

Best for: People who want the strongest possible qualification for international schools, those considering long-term careers in education, and anyone who values formal academic recognition.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Standard TEFL and Level 5 TEFL course?

Both courses are 120 hours and in-person. The Standard TEFL costs 45,000 THB and is a practical qualification focused on classroom skills and teaching methodology, suited to those who want to start teaching quickly without formal academic assignments. The 120-hour TQUK Level 5 costs 50,000 THB and includes the same practical training plus academic assignments, awarding a UK-regulated Level 5 qualification, which is more competitive for international schools and further study in education.

Which TEFL course is right for me?

If you want to teach in Thailand or Southeast Asia and prefer a hands-on practical approach, the Standard TEFL is ideal. If you want a formally recognised UK qualification that carries weight with international schools worldwide, choose the Level 5. If you want everything handled — course, job, accommodation, visa, and 12 months of support — the All-In Bundle is the most complete option.

What does the TEFL All-In Bundle include?

The All-In Bundle (130,000 THB) includes the 120-hour TQUK Level 5 TEFL course, guaranteed school placement through Essential Educational Staffing, first month accommodation in Bangkok, full visa documentation support, 12-month career backing with re-placement guarantee, and a Bangkok orientation and teacher network induction.

How much do TEFL courses cost in Bangkok?

At Essential TEFL Bangkok, the Standard TEFL course costs 45,000 THB (approximately £1,015 or $1,300 USD) and the 120-hour TQUK accredited Level 5 course costs 50,000 THB (approximately £1,130 or $1,445 USD). The All-In Bundle, which includes guaranteed placement, accommodation, and 12-month career support, costs 130,000 THB (approximately $3,800 USD).

Do I need academic qualifications to join a TEFL course in Bangkok?

No academic prerequisites are required for either course. The Standard TEFL has no formal academic component beyond the practical coursework. The Level 5 includes academic assignments as part of the UK-regulated qualification. A bachelor degree is typically required to obtain a work permit in Thailand, but is not required to enrol in the course itself.

Can I teach in Thailand without a degree?

Yes. Some language schools and tutoring positions accept TEFL-certified teachers without a degree. Read our guide for non-degree holders.

Is a discount available?

We offer 3,000 THB off if you book a month or more in advance. See our discounts page.
